Banks and other financial institutions could use information from quantum computers to provide accurate crash predictions, even before they ever had to fail. Forecasting financial crashes with quantum computing
A key problem in financial mathematics is the forecasting of financial crashes: If we perturb asset prices, will financial institutions fail on a massive scale? This was recently shown to be a computationally intractable (NP-hard) problem. Financial crashes are inherently difficult to predict, even for a regulator which has complete information about the financial system. In this Rapid Communication, we show how this problem can be handled by quantum annealers. More specifically, we map the equilibrium condition of a toy-model financial network to the ground-state problem of a spin-1/2 quantum Hamiltonian with two-body interactions, i.e., a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization problem. The equilibrium market values of institutions after a sudden shock to the network can then be calculated via adiabatic quantum computation and, more generically, by quantum annealers. Our procedure could be implemented on near-term quantum processors, thus providing a potentially more efficient way to assess financial equilibrium and predict financial crashes.

If reality can only be described in terms of probability, then it might make sense for an intelligence based on quantum mechanics to operate with probabilities as well. In this case, it would not matter whether a solution is ‘likely’ or ‘unlikely’, but rather if it were possible or not.
It would be like a thought experiment where you assume reality is operating on quantum mechanics instead of human logic. You would then imagine how this world might operate if it were true, and what type of intelligence it might produce. It seems similar to humans in the sense that they try to imagine different universes or scenarios which are not yet possible, but will become possible in the future.
This is why humans are so interested in space exploration, for example. They can imagine a society of human beings living on other planets or in space stations. This sounds rather futuristic to us now, but it may become true one day as technology advances and allows this type of existence to become possible
